Monaco City Map with Attractions and Landmarks
Prince’s Palace of Monaco
The Prince’s Palace crowns the western end of the Rock. Place du Palais is the natural starting point for a Monaco City walking route, with broad views over the Principality nearby.
From here, the old town’s lanes spread east toward the cathedral, gardens and Oceanographic Museum. The compact layout makes it easy to continue on foot.
Monaco Cathedral
Monaco Cathedral stands a short walk from the Palace in the old town. Built in pale stone, it is one of the principal religious and historic landmarks on the Rock.
The cathedral belongs naturally in the same walking circuit as the Palace and Saint-Martin Gardens. It is also closely associated with Monaco’s princely family, including the tombs of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III.
Oceanographic Museum
Perched dramatically above the sea, the Oceanographic Museum is one of Monaco’s most distinctive buildings. Its position on the edge of the Rock makes it both a major attraction and an excellent geographic marker on the map.
The museum sits near the eastern end of Monaco-Ville, so it combines naturally with the gardens and cathedral.
Saint-Martin Gardens
The Saint-Martin Gardens run along the seaward side of the Rock near the cathedral and Oceanographic Museum. They offer one of the most pleasant ways to connect Monaco City’s major sights on foot.
Mediterranean and exotic vegetation softens the rocky setting, while paths open toward sea views. They are especially useful as a scenic pause between cultural visits.
Place du Palais
Place du Palais is more than the forecourt of the Prince’s Palace. It is one of the best viewpoints for understanding Monaco’s geography, with perspectives toward Port Hercule and Monte Carlo on one side and Fontvieille on the other.
On a map, it sits at the western tip of the old town circuit. In practice, it is an ideal place to orient yourself before entering the lanes of Monaco-Ville.
Monaco Old Town Map
Monaco-Ville and Le Rocher
Monaco-Ville sits on a rocky promontory projecting into the Mediterranean. The Rock is the defining feature of Monaco Old Town, both visually and geographically.
This elevated position explains the dramatic views and the clear separation from La Condamine below. Once you understand the shape of the Rock, the old town becomes surprisingly straightforward to navigate.
Streets and Pedestrian Areas in Monaco Old Town
The streets around the Palace are compact and made for wandering. You do not need to chase every lane to enjoy Monaco Old Town, but a map keeps the Palace, cathedral and museum in the right order.
Small passages, façades and sudden sea views are part of the appeal, especially away from the busiest approach to Place du Palais.
Viewpoints Around Le Rocher
Some of Monaco’s best views come from the edges of the old town. Look for viewpoints facing Port Hercule, Monte Carlo, Fontvieille and the Mediterranean, as each side reveals a different perspective.
These viewpoints are also useful for planning. From above, Monaco’s compact but layered geography suddenly makes sense.
How to Use the Monaco City Tourist Map
Walking Around Monaco City
Monaco City is best explored on foot. Once you are on the Rock, the main attractions are close together, making it easy to build a compact walking circuit.
We recommend starting near Place du Palais, crossing the old streets toward the cathedral, continuing through Saint-Martin Gardens and finishing around the Oceanographic Museum, or simply reversing the route.
Planning a Visit to Monaco Old Town
For a short visit, focus on the Palace area, old streets and viewpoints. With more time, add the cathedral, gardens and museum.
Keep Monaco City together as one geographic block in your itinerary. If you then want to explore the rest of the Principality, switch to the Monaco Tourist Map for the overall picture or the Monte Carlo Tourist Map for the casino district.
