Hautvillers

In Our Top ☑️
Perched above a vast expanse of vineyards, Hautvillers is one of the most iconic villages in Champagne. Its picturesque lanes, lined with traditional houses and decorated with wrought-iron signs, have an atmosphere deeply rooted in the region’s wine-making culture.
This is where Dom Pierre Pérignon lived, a 17th-century monk who helped improve the techniques used to blend Champagne wines. His tomb can be found in the Church of Saint-Sindulphe, which is all that remains of a former abbey.
From the heights of the village, you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the vineyards and the valley below. These historic vine-covered hillsides have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.
Aÿ

At the foot of vine-covered hills, Aÿ is a small historic town whose identity has been shaped by champagne production. Its vineyards have been renowned for centuries and hold the prestigious Grand Cru classification, reserved for some of the most highly regarded wine-growing areas in Champagne.
The old town is home to traditional winegrowers’ houses, elegant bourgeois residences and the Gothic Church of Saint-Brice, dating from the 15th century. Several major champagne houses have also established themselves here.
As you walk up towards the hills, you’ll discover Aÿ’s historic vineyard slopes, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with their beautifully ordered rows of vines.
