🚆 Route to Monaco by Train

Explore Monaco-Ville
Perched high on a rocky bluff above the sea, Monaco-Ville, also called “the Rock”, is the historic heart of the principality. You can only explore it on foot, which makes it perfect for wandering through narrow little streets lined with pastel-colored old houses. It’s quiet and peaceful here, a world away from the buzz of Monte-Carlo. You’ll find amazing sea views all over, especially from the old ramparts. This is also where most of Monaco’s key historic sights are located.

Visit the Cathedral
Built at the end of the 19th century with white stone, Monaco’s cathedral stands out with its massive, simple Romanesque-style façade. Inside, there’s a white marble altar and some beautiful mosaics to admire. The cathedral is also the final resting place of Monaco’s princes, including Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III, whose tombs are often covered with fresh flowers from visitors. It’s a solemn and peaceful spot, with soft light coming through the stained glass windows.

Palace Square
Palace Square is one of Monaco’s most iconic spots. It opens onto the big esplanade in front of the Prince’s Palace and offers stunning views over the harbor and the modern city below. Every day at 11:55 a.m., you can watch the changing of the guard, a well-rehearsed ceremony that draws plenty of curious onlookers. The square itself is surrounded by old buildings making it a great place to take a break before or after visiting the Palace.

Admire the Prince's Palace
Overlooking the Mediterranean with pride, the Prince’s Palace has been the official residence of Monaco’s rulers since the 13th century. Behind its fortress-like appearance, it hides a lavish interior, part of which is open to the public at certain times of the year. You’ll see elegant furniture, 16th-century frescoes, and an impressive throne room. The palace is still a powerful symbol of Monaco’s identity.

Casino Square
Casino Square is the lively heart of Monte-Carlo, full of elegance and luxury. Surrounded by palm trees and perfectly manicured flower beds, the square is home to famous buildings like the Hôtel de Paris, Café de Paris, and of course, the legendary Casino. It’s the perfect place to people-watch, spot luxury cars, and take in the Belle Époque beauty of the Casino’s façade. The whole place feels like a movie set, classy and a bit theatrical.

Explore the Casino
Designed by Charles Garnier, the Monte-Carlo Casino is a Second Empire masterpiece. The interiors are all about Belle Époque opulence, with rooms full of gold details, stucco work, and stained glass. You can try your luck at the tables or just tour the building during non-gaming hours. Whether you play or not, it’s a must-see, the whole place oozes the over-the-top glamour Monaco is famous for.

Finish with a Seaside Drink
To wrap up your day in Monaco, there’s nothing better than a drink by the sea. Down below Monte-Carlo, the terraces along the coastline offer a relaxing setting with views of yachts and open water. Whether you’re at Larvotto Beach or near Port Hercule, there are plenty of spots to grab a drink while the sun sets. It’s a more laid-back vibe than the rest of the principality, perfect for unwinding after a full day of exploring.
