Things to Do

Itinerary Idea

🚆 Route to Menton by Train

Seafront Stroll

Menton has one of the classiest seafronts on the French Riviera. You’ve got palm trees, pastel-colored buildings, and soft beaches lining the Promenade du Soleil, a long walkway that runs right along the water. It’s perfect for a slow stroll, with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. You’ll pass early joggers, families out for a walk, and locals enjoying a coffee while gazing at the horizon. The colorful architecture adds a retro-chic feel and lots of light.

Old Town Discovery

The old town of Menton is a little treasure. It tumbles down the hillside in layers, with narrow alleys and steep staircases winding between faded shutters and colorful buildings. You’ll feel a strong Italian vibe, laundry hanging from windows, vaulted doorways, and delicious smells coming from kitchens. Make your way up to Saint-Michel Basilica, a baroque gem, and keep going to the Old Château Cemetery at the very top.

Hilltop Views

From the top of the old town, the view is incredible. The sea stretches out forever, framed by the beaches of Menton, and the Alps rise up in the background. The Old Château Cemetery is one of the best spots to take it all in, quiet and peaceful. You really feel that perfect balance here between the mountains and the Mediterranean. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop and just enjoy the moment.

Marina and Breakwaters

Menton’s port got a nice mix of charm and activity, with colorful fishing boats next to sleek modern yachts. The breakwaters that protect the harbor are great for walking, you’re right next to the water, with wide views of the town. There are cafés and restaurants around too, so you can grab a drink or a bite with a sea breeze.

🍴 Lunch

Beach

Menton has a bunch of well-kept beaches that are super easy to access and nice and shallow, so they’re perfect for just relaxing. Some have pebbles, others have imported sand, but either way, the water’s often warmer than elsewhere on the Riviera, thanks to the natural shelter of the bay. A few of the beaches are lined with palm trees too, which just adds to that perfect postcard feel.

Gardens and Citrus

Menton is often called “the pearl of France,” and its lush gardens are a big reason why. Thanks to the subtropical climate, you’ll see all kinds of plants thriving here, lemon trees, orange trees, palms, and even date trees. Some of the best gardens include the Serre de la Madone, which feels like an English garden, and the Val Rahmeh Garden, which is more wild and exotic.

Lemons are a huge part of Menton’s identity: every winter there’s a big Lemon Festival, with giant citrus sculptures and parades. You’ll also find citrus everywhere in the shops, local recipes, and even in the scents at the markets.

🚖 Route to Èze Village by Uber

The Charming Village of Èze

Perched at 430 meters above sea level, Èze is easily one of the most breathtaking villages on the French Riviera. Clinging to the cliff between Nice and Monaco, this medieval spot has kept all its charm, even with the crowds. You’ll find yourself wandering around, eyes up, through a maze of cobblestone alleys and arched passages, with restored old houses, artisan shops, and little galleries all around you. The whole place feels like a romantic, stone-built world floating above the sea. It’s timeless and just made for slow strolling and taking it all in.

Exotic Garden and Panoramic Views

At the very top of Èze, where a castle once stood, there’s an exotic garden that was created after World War II. It feels like a balcony between the sky and the sea, filled with cacti and succulents from all over the world. As you wander along the dry-stone paths, you’ll come across modern sculptures tucked between the plants. But the real highlight is the 360-degree view over the Mediterranean and the coastline, on a clear day, you can even spot Corsica in the distance. It’s an unforgettable view, easily one of the best in the whole region.

Fragonard Perfume Factory

At the bottom of the village, you’ll find the Fragonard perfume factory, where you can dive into the world of scents. The factory-museum offers free tours that walk you through how perfumes, soaps, and cosmetics are made. You’ll get to see perfume organs, distillation tools, and learn how different fragrances are blended together. It’s all part of a long tradition that started in Grasse, and here it’s presented in a bright, modern space. There’s also a shop where you can grab anything from the Fragonard range, perfect if you’re into perfume or just looking for a nice gift.

Seafront Stroll

In Menton, the perfect place to start your walk by the sea is around Quai Napoléon III. The promenade here is lined with palm trees, Belle Époque hotels, and perfectly kept gardens, definitely one of the most graceful seafronts on the Riviera. You’ve got the Mediterranean on one side and the ochre tones of the old town spilling down to the water on the other. The vibe is calm and easy, with the soft light giving everything this warm glow. It’s a great stroll at any time of day.

Old Town Discovery

Menton’s old town is a real delight. It climbs up from the sea to the Old Château Cemetery, with narrow streets, stone staircases, vaulted arches, and warm-colored façades packed tightly together. Around the Saint-Michel Basilica, you’ll find one of the most charming baroque corners of the city. There are quiet little squares, old wooden doors, and the smells of Mediterranean cooking in the air. The whole area feels both down-to-earth and authentic, with a strong Italian flavor that gives Menton its special character.

Marina and Breakwaters

Right at the foot of the old town, Menton’s port blends traditional boats with sailing yachts. The breakwaters protect the harbor and make for a peaceful walk along the jetties, with the colorful town rising up behind you. It’s a great spot to watch the sea, see the boats come and go, or just enjoy the moment. The atmosphere is calm and sunny, a world away from the buzz of the bigger ports along the Riviera.

🚆 Route to Menton by Train

Seafront Stroll

Menton’s seafront is one of the most stunning stretches on the French Riviera. You walk along the Promenade du Soleil, with beaches and palm trees on one side and elegant Belle Époque buildings on the other. The mix of colorful architecture and turquoise water creates this calm, classy vibe. It’s also a lively spot where both locals and visitors come to walk, bike, or just sit and take in the sea view.

Old Town Discovery

Menton’s old town is a masterpiece of old-school urban design, built around the Saint-Michel Basilica. The streets spiral upward, lined with tall houses painted in warm shades, with wooden shutters aged by the sun and sea air. You’ll find narrow alleys, staircases, archways, and little shaded squares, the kind of place that feels alive and deeply Mediterranean. The vibe is friendly and down-to-earth, with markets and small shops adding to the buzz. Every turn reveals some charming little detail.

Hilltop Views

At the very top of Menton’s old town, by the Old Château Cemetery, you’ll get one of the best panoramic views around: the Mediterranean, the rooftops below, and the surrounding hills all spread out in front of you. It’s a peaceful spot, floating between sea and sky, and it’s where artists like Jean Cocteau and Léonard Foujita are buried. The contrast between the calm sea below and the rising mountains behind makes it feel even more special. It’s a place that’s both scenic and reflective, and great for photos too.

The Medieval Village

Perched between Menton and Monaco, the village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is a medieval maze. You’ll wander through vaulted alleys, narrow stairways, and hidden passageways, the kind of setting that hasn’t changed much in centuries. This cliffside eagle’s nest, built like an amphitheater around its Carolingian castle, feels like it’s floating between the sky and the sea. You won’t find flashy shops or over-the-top luxury here, just the untouched charm of a Provençal village clinging to the rock, with stunning glimpses of the Mediterranean at every turn.

Exploring the Château de Roquebrune

Right above the village, the Château de Roquebrune is a striking 10th-century fortress, one of the rare examples of Carolingian architecture in the region. It’s been altered over the centuries, but still has loads of character, with steep steps, stone walls, vaulted rooms, and a huge old cistern. From the top of the tower, you get sweeping views over the bay of Monaco, the hills around, and the rooftops of the village. It’s a mix of history and scenery that really shows how important this place once was as a defensive stronghold.

Visit the St. Marguerite Church

Tucked in the heart of the medieval village, the Church of Saint Marguerite dates back to the 17th century and is part of the area’s rich religious heritage. The outside is pretty simple, but step inside and you’ll see ornate baroque details and some beautiful frescoes. It feels warm and peaceful, and the church still plays a big part in village life. It’s just a short walk from the château, and adds a perfect finishing touch to your visit to old Roquebrune, mixing heritage, spirituality, and that laid-back Mediterranean feel.
