🚆 Route to Nice by Train

Old Town

Vieux Nice feels like a real-life baroque stage set, with narrow streets, warm-toned buildings in ochre and brick red, green shutters, and laundry hanging out the windows. The vibe here is totally Mediterranean, lively, colorful, and buzzing day and night. It’s perfect for a stroll through little shops, churches, and lively squares filled with vibrant markets. This is the historic heart of Nice, and you’ll feel the city’s soul in every step.

Nice Cathedral

Right in the middle of the Old Town, tucked away on a small square with café terraces, you’ll spot Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, a 17th-century baroque gem. Step inside and you’ll be blown away by all the gold, colorful marble, and beautifully decorated side chapels. The whole place feels both grand and theatrical, a signature of the Piedmontese baroque style. It’s dedicated to the city’s patron saint, and whether you’re into churches or not, it’s worth a visit for the architecture and the calm vibe inside.

Masséna Square

Place Masséna is the beating heart of the city, a big open square paved in black and white, surrounded by red arcaded buildings. It connects the Old Town to the modern shopping area and the Paillon promenade. You’ll notice tall poles with glowing statues on top, they represent the continents, a work by Jaume Plensa. It’s a cool blend of classic and modern, and there’s always something going on here. If you’re exploring Nice, you’ll definitely pass through.

Paillon Stroll

The Promenade du Paillon or “green corridor”, is a long strip of greenery that cuts through the city from the national theater down to the sea. It’s basically a giant linear park, perfect for a chill walk with fountains, modern sculptures, flowers, and kids’ play areas. Locals love it, and it’s a great spot to take a break between visits.

🍴 Lunch

Hilltop Panoramas

If you want the best views in Nice, head up to Castle Hill. You can walk up or take the elevator, and once you’re there, you get an amazing lookout over the Bay of Angels, the Old Town, and the port. It’s now a public park with trees, a few ruins from the old fortress, and even a photogenic man-made waterfall. There are plenty of benches too if you just want to sit and take it all in. If you’re into photography or just love great views, don’t skip this spot.

Seafront Stroll

The Promenade des Anglais is the symbol of Nice, a wide avenue lined with palm trees and those famous blue benches, running along the bright blue sea. Built in the 1800s by British winter visitors, it’s now always full of joggers, bikers, tourists, and families. You’ll pass fancy hotels like the Negresco as you walk along the curve of the bay. This stroll really captures the easygoing vibe of the city.

Beach

Nice’s beaches stretch all along the promenade. They’re made of pebbles, not sand, so it’s a bit different, but the water is super clear and deep blue. You’ve got public beaches and also private ones with sunbeds, umbrellas, and beachside restaurants. Some spots are chic and lively, others are more relaxed and great for families or couples. Swimming here, with that stunning bay view in front of you, is definitely one of the highlights of any day in Nice.
