heritage for such a small town. Its past as a trading centre and pilgrimage destination is still visible in its historic streets and religious monuments. It&#8217;s an interesting stop before heading to the Bay of Somme.<\/p><p>The Chapel of the Holy Spirit is its greatest treasure, with extraordinary carvings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. Its intricately decorated vaults are particularly impressive. Nearby, the belfry is a reminder of the independence the town once enjoyed. Its historic houses, flower-filled lanes and views across the vast stretches of sand exposed at low tide make it one of the prettiest little towns on the coast. The atmosphere changes constantly with the light.<\/p><p>The upper town has preserved its fortified gateways, an old church and beautiful stone houses. It was from here that William the Conqueror assembled part of his fleet before setting out to conquer England in 1066. Perched on a green hillside, it charms visitors with its cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses and fa\u00e7ades covered in roses. The whole place has a wonderfully romantic feel, especially in spring and early summer.<\/p><p>The painter Henri Le Sidaner played a major role in bringing the village back to life in the early 20th century, encouraging residents to decorate their homes with flowers. His gardens still reflect that passion today.
